Tatlisu

Tatlisu is a charming village located on the northern coast of Cyprus, east of Kyrenia and Esentepe. The name “Tatlisu” means “sweet water” in Turkish, which refers to the natural springs in the area that provide fresh water. This area is known for its natural beauty with pristine nature, lush greenery, mountain range, excellent sandy beaches and crystal-clear Mediterranean water. It is a perfect destination for those looking for peace and relaxation. The village itself boasts traditional small houses and local village shops, creating a charming and authentic atmosphere. Visitors can also explore the elegant local church, which adds to the quaint ambiance of the village. Tatlisu is located just 35 km from the popular tourist town of Kyrenia, making it a convenient destination for travellers. The area also has its own main road to Ercan and Larnaca airports, making it easy to get to and from the village. For those looking to explore more of the region, the Karpaz Peninsula is easily accessible from Tatlisu. This famous peninsula is home to the stunning Golden Beach and wild donkeys, and is a must visit destination for nature lovers.

Kaplica Beach

One of the highlights of a visit to Tatlisu is Kaplica Beach, which is just a 10 minute drive away. This lovely sandy beach offers stunning views of the Kantara Castle ruins, and is perfect for a lazy day in the sun. Visitors can relax on comfortable sun loungers, take a dip in the sea, or enjoy a delicious snack from the beach restaurant.

Kantara Castle

Kantara Castle is a medieval fortress located just east of Tatlisu. It is situated at an altitude of 630 meters and is one of the three major castles in the region, along with St. Hilarion Castle and Buffavento Castle. The castle was built by the Byzantines in the 10th century and was later expanded and renovated by the Lusignans and Venetians. Its strategic location allowed it to serve as an important lookout point for the island’s defences against Arab raids. During the Ottoman period, it was used as a prison and a watchtower. Today, Kantara Castle is a popular tourist destination in Northern Cyprus, offering visitors the opportunity to explore its ancient ruins and learn about the island’s history. The castle walls, towers, and various rooms and chambers within the castle are open to visitors. From the top of the castle, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Mesaoria Plain to the south. In addition to its historical and cultural significance, Kantara Castle is also a great place to experience the natural beauty of Northern Cyprus. The castle is surrounded by rugged hills and valleys, and there are many hiking trails in the area that offer stunning views of the landscape.
